As Associate Editor, you’ll play a key role in producing standout content, from flagship issues like Entrepreneur of the Year and 30 Under 30 to digital posts that spark online engagement. You’ll also contribute to the magic behind high-profile events that celebrate B.C.’s most influential leaders and creative minds.

Role Overview

The Associate Editor is central to maintaining BCBusiness’s reputation as Western Canada’s leading business magazine. You’ll oversee editorial projects, manage key content, and collaborate with the editorial team to ensure both print and digital platforms deliver engaging, high-quality material.


Key Responsibilities

Content Development & Editing

  • Write, edit, and manage editorial content for BCBusiness’s print and online platforms.
  • Coordinate editorial calendars and work-back schedules for major issues and features.
  • Oversee recurring columns like Weekend Warrior, Worst Day on the Job, and Small Town Success.
  • Produce and distribute three newsletters weekly, maintaining audience engagement.

Digital & Audience Engagement

  • Develop and publish compelling digital content, contributing at least three posts weekly to bcbusiness.ca.
  • Collaborate with the team to create innovative strategies for driving traffic and engaging readers.
  • Monitor content performance and adapt to emerging trends to enhance online presence.

Networking & Industry Presence

  • Build relationships with industry professionals, organizations, and contributors.
  • Represent BCBusiness at workshops, conferences, and networking events to maintain the magazine’s prominence.
  • Attend and occasionally host high-profile events, strengthening the magazine’s ties with B.C.’s business community.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • 4–5 years of experience in editorial roles within a magazine, newspaper, or media environment.
  • Proficiency with Apple platforms, Photoshop, InDesign, and WordPress.
  • Strong command of CP Style and editorial best practices.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and project management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with B.C.’s business and tech landscape, including key sectors and players.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a talent for collaboration and networking.
